A brutal street attack orchestrated by an organized drug syndicate left three people, including a woman, seriously injured in Narayanganj. The violence erupted when local residents attempted to intervene in a turf war, drawing the immediate wrath of a notorious local drug peddler and his associates.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 PM on Friday within the Mizmizi Paglabari area under Ward No. 1 of the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC). The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Sifat, 26-year-old Raju, and 30-year-old Ani. Due to the critical nature of his injuries, Sifat was rushed straight to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced emergency treatment.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that tension had been brewing near the canal-side area of Mizmizi Paglabari, right outside a small local cake shop run by Sifat’s mother. A violent altercation had broken out between a local drug dealer named Shafiqul Islam and members of a rival faction. Seeking to prevent bloodshed in front of the family shop, Sifat, alongside Raju and Ani, courageously stepped forward to break up the fight. Their intervention successfully restored temporary calm, prompting both feuding groups to disperse from the immediate vicinity.
Peace, however, was short-lived. Barely thirty minutes after the initial confrontation, Shafiqul returned to the scene with reinforcements. Accompanied by his elder sister, Jannatul Ferdous Pari, his brother-in-law Sohel, and a hostile group of five to six armed accomplices, the syndicate members launched a coordinated revenge attack on the unsuspecting victims. The assailants subjected the trio to a severe beating before drawing sharp weapons and inflicting multiple stab wounds.
The chaos and frantic screams drew panicked local residents out of their homes. Outraged by the brazen violence, an assembled mob confronted the attackers, meting out mass beatings to the culprits while rescuing the bleeding victims. Police authorities were immediately notified, prompting rapid deployment from the local station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Emdadul Haque of Siddhirganj Police Station confirmed that Sub-Inspector Oliullah was dispatched to secure the crime scene and manage the aftermath. Law enforcement officials have launched a comprehensive manhunt to track down and arrest all individuals involved in the violent assault, as residents demand stronger action against localized drug syndicates.
