Husband Held for Wife’s Death

A tragic domestic incident in Comilla’s Chandina Upazila has left a family devastated. On the night of 7 December, 27-year-old housewife Sabina Akter was allegedly murdered in her own home by her husband, Abul Khayer. Police have since arrested the husband on suspicion of involvement in the crime.

The horrific incident occurred in Hossainpur village of Gallai Union, and the victim’s father promptly lodged a case on 8 December, naming Abul Khayer and two others as suspects. Sabina Akter, a mother of two, had been married to Abul Khayer for approximately twelve years. The couple lived in the same village, while Sabina hailed from Haraldar village in Mahichail Union.

Local sources reveal that the couple’s relationship had long been troubled by frequent disputes. On the night of the killing, Abul Khayer allegedly assaulted Sabina with extreme violence. The altercation reportedly ended with him strangling her with a rope and forcibly submerging her head in a bathroom bucket of water, resulting in her death.

Upon learning of the incident, Sabina’s father, Maynal Hossain, along with family members, rushed to the house and discovered her lifeless body in the bathroom. They managed to detain Abul Khayer with the help of local residents and informed the police immediately.

Officer-in-Charge of Chandina Police Station, Md. Atikur Rahman, stated that the body had been sent to the morgue for post-mortem examination. He confirmed that Abul Khayer is currently in police custody and that further legal action will be taken based on the ongoing investigation.

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with residents expressing horror over the violent nature of the crime. Social workers and activists have called for more stringent measures against domestic violence and support systems for victims.

This case serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by women in domestic settings, and the urgent need for awareness and preventive measures to ensure the safety of families.
