A shocking armed assault on a doctor at the Mohammadpur Upazila Health Complex in Magura has sent ripples of alarm through the local community. On Saturday, 13 February 2026, Dr Asadur Rahman became the target of a violent attack by a group of armed individuals. The incident was captured on the hospital’s CCTV cameras and rapidly circulated across social media, provoking widespread condemnation from both the public and the medical community.
According to CCTV footage, at precisely 12:02 PM on Friday, a group of 10–12 men entered the hospital’s emergency department. They forcibly dragged Dr Rahman from his chair and attempted to assault him using fists, kicks, and sticks.
Dr Rahman described the harrowing encounter:
“I was attending a patient suffering from breathing difficulties. Earlier, I had treated two victims of a motorcycle accident. One individual approached me to speak, but I asked him to wait outside. He began occupying the chair and became aggressive, launching an unprovoked attack.”
Hospital sources revealed that the assailants’ aggression was linked to a patient named Nur Mohammad, a relative of local volunteer leader Arifuzzaman Milton, which appears to have triggered the confrontation.
Kazi Abu Ahsan, Upazila Health Officer, confirmed that a formal written complaint has been filed and emphasised the need to strengthen hospital security measures.
The Magura branch of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) has demanded the immediate arrest of all those responsible and warned of strict professional action if the authorities fail to comply.
Muhammad Ashrafuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, stated:
“Nine individuals have been named as suspects. On Saturday evening, Mazarul Islam was arrested. Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.”
