A early-morning operation by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has led to the arrest of a man and the seizure of several firearms alongside ammunition in Satkhira Sadar Upazila.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding an illegal arms stockpile, an operational unit from RAB-6 carried out a raid at approximately 5:30 am on Thursday in the Choubaria area. Officers detained 31-year-old Md Ariful Islam, a resident of Choubaria village and son of Md Joynal Sardar.
A search of the premises yielded a foreign-manufactured pistol, two locally produced single-shot firearms—commonly referred to as one-shooter guns—and 11 rounds of live ammunition. Law enforcement officers confiscated the arms and ammunition on-site in the presence of independent witnesses, adhering to standard legal inventory procedures.
A formal case has been registered against Ariful at Satkhira Sadar Police Station. Both the suspect and the seized contraband were handed over to local police authorities to facilitate further legal proceedings. Investigators expect subsequent interrogations to clarify the origin of the weapons, the distribution channels involved, and the intended purpose behind storing such firepower.
Confirming the details of the raid, Additional Superintendent of Police Zayen Uddin Muhammad Ziad, Company Commander of RAB-6 (CPC-1, Satkhira), emphasised that the elite force remains resolute in its duty. He affirmed that targeted drives against illegal arms trafficking, narcotics networks, and known criminal groups across the region will continue without interruption.
Satkhira, located near the south-western border of Bangladesh, presents distinct security challenges for law enforcement agencies. Cross-border movement and clandestine supply routes frequently make border-adjacent districts vulnerable to arms proliferation. Interventions of this nature are seen as crucial steps in curbing violent crime, dismantling underground networks, and maintaining public safety across the district. Law enforcement officials reaffirmed that investigative operations and preventive patrols will remain active to prevent the movement of illicit weapons.
