The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a marginal reduction in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and autogas tariffs for September. Under the newly issued pricing schedule, the retail cost of a standard 12 kg LPG cylinder has been lowered by Tk 13, bringing the consumer price down from Tk 1,598 to Tk 1,585.

Announcing the decision on Wednesday, 2 September, the energy regulator confirmed that the updated prices take effect from 6:00 pm on the day of publication. The revised rates will remain operational until the regulatory body issues subsequent adjustments.

In addition to the benchmark 12 kg container, BERC adjusted retail pricing across all private-sector cylinder capacities available in the domestic market. The comprehensive tariff breakdown spans thirteen distinct container sizes:

Monthly price evaluations by BERC track shifts in the international market, relying heavily on Saudi Aramco’s monthly Contract Price (CP) for butane and propane, alongside fluctuations in ocean freight rates, currency exchange values, and local dealer margins. Liquid gas serves as a crucial household commodity in Bangladesh, particularly across regions lacking piped natural gas infrastructure. Consequently, monthly tariff revisions directly dictate household utility expenditures nationwide.

While the Tk 13 price reduction offers minor relief to domestic consumers, market monitoring remains a critical priority. Consumer rights groups have repeatedly highlighted discrepancies between government-sanctioned rates and actual retail prices at local distribution points, where vendors occasionally charge premiums. Ensuring strict adherence to the new price table across retail outlets will determine whether end users experience the full benefit of the commission’s latest adjustment.
