Bangladesh Keeps Fuel Prices Unchanged Throughout July

The Government of Bangladesh has decided to keep retail fuel prices unchanged for the month of July, meaning consumers will continue paying the existing rates for diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane throughout the month.

The decision was confirmed on Monday, 30 June, through an official notification issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. According to the notification, the existing fuel prices will remain in force for July 2026 following approval from the appropriate authorities. The rates will be effective from 1 July until 31 July 2026.

Under the latest decision, diesel will continue to be sold at Tk115 per litre, kerosene at Tk135 per litre, petrol at Tk140 per litre and octane at Tk145 per litre. These prices are identical to those announced in the government notification issued on 31 May 2026, meaning there will be no increase or reduction in retail fuel prices for a second consecutive month.

Fuel prices play a significant role in Bangladesh’s economy because petroleum products are essential for transportation, agriculture, industry and power generation. Diesel, in particular, is extensively used by commercial vehicles, freight transport, irrigation pumps, agricultural machinery and numerous industrial operations. Petrol and octane are primarily consumed by private vehicles, motorcycles and other motorised transport, while kerosene continues to serve household and specialised purposes in some parts of the country.

By maintaining current fuel prices, the government has provided short-term certainty for consumers and businesses that rely heavily on petroleum products. Stable fuel costs can help prevent an immediate rise in transport expenses, which often influence the cost of moving goods across the country. This may also ease pressure on businesses whose operating costs are closely linked to fuel consumption.

Although unchanged fuel prices can contribute to greater market stability, they are only one of several factors affecting overall inflation and production costs. Import expenses, international crude oil prices, exchange rate movements and broader global energy market conditions also play an important role in determining domestic prices and the cost of doing business.

Bangladesh reviews retail fuel prices on a monthly basis under its pricing mechanism. During each review, the government considers developments in international fuel markets alongside import costs, exchange rate fluctuations and other relevant economic indicators before determining whether domestic prices require adjustment.

The latest decision indicates that, after assessing these factors, the authorities found no immediate need to revise retail fuel prices for July. As a result, consumers, transport operators, farmers and industries will continue purchasing diesel, kerosene, petrol and octane at the existing rates throughout the month.

The government is expected to conduct another review before the end of July. Based on prevailing international energy prices, import costs and other economic considerations, it will determine whether any adjustments are necessary for August. Until then, the current retail prices of all four major petroleum products will remain in effect nationwide.
