Bangladesh Reach Unprecedented Test Milestone

Bangladesh recorded a historic achievement in Test cricket after defeating Pakistan in Sylhet on Wednesday, completing their fourth consecutive Test victory for the first time in the nation’s history.

Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side also maintained a perfect recent record against Pakistan, having now won each of their last four Tests against the former world champions. Bangladesh had never previously managed four successive Test victories against any opponent since becoming a Test-playing nation in 2000.

The achievement is particularly significant considering Bangladesh’s earlier struggles against Pakistan in the longest format. Prior to August 2024, Bangladesh had played 13 Tests against Pakistan without registering a single win. Their only positive result during that period was one draw, while Pakistan won the remaining 12 matches.

Bangladesh’s breakthrough came during their tour of Pakistan in August 2024. The visitors won both Tests in Rawalpindi, first by 10 wickets and then by six wickets, securing their maiden Test win and first Test series triumph over Pakistan. The away whitewash was also Bangladesh’s first against Pakistan in Test cricket.

The latest home series victory has extended that winning sequence. Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 104 runs in Mirpur before sealing the second Test in Sylhet by 78 runs on Wednesday.

The four-match winning streak overall began in November 2025 during Bangladesh’s home series against Ireland. Bangladesh won the opening Test by an innings and 47 runs before claiming the second Test by 217 runs. The subsequent two victories against Pakistan completed the unprecedented sequence.

Before this run, Bangladesh’s best sequence in Test cricket had been three consecutive victories. They first achieved that in 2018 against Zimbabwe and the West Indies. The side later repeated the feat in 2023 with successive wins over New Zealand, Afghanistan and Ireland.

Bangladesh’s recent Test journey, however, has not been entirely consistent. After their historic wins in Pakistan in 2024, they lost a two-match Test series in India by 2-0 and then suffered another 2-0 defeat at home to South Africa. Bangladesh later drew 1-1 away to the West Indies and shared another 1-1 series against Zimbabwe at home. Ahead of the ongoing Pakistan series, they also lost a two-Test series in Sri Lanka by a 1-0 margin.

The latest victories against Pakistan nevertheless represent another major milestone for Bangladesh’s Test side and underline the team’s continued progress in the format.
