A local leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in Faridpur’s Boalmari upazila has been stripped of his organisational position following serious allegations of an extramarital affair with the wife of an expatriate worker. The swift internal action underscores the party’s sensitivity to personal misconduct scandals at the local level.
Inamul Molla, 26, served as the Ameer of Ward No. 9 within the Boalmari municipality branch of Jamaat-e-Islami. A resident of Kushdanga village, he is the son of Md Akram Molla and is professionally employed as a receptionist at Molla Doctor K Halim Hospital located in the Boalmari bazaar area.
According to local and organisational sources, Molla had been engaged in an alleged illicit relationship with a woman living in the Kutipara neighbourhood of Kushdanga village, whose husband currently works abroad. Rumours surrounding the affair began circulating extensively within both families and the wider community in recent days, triggering widespread public discussion and criticism.
Attempts by journalists to reach Molla for comment proved unsuccessful, as both of his mobile phone numbers remained switched off. Members of his immediate family were likewise unavailable for comment.
Manager of Molla Doctor K Halim Hospital, Rezaul Karim, revealed that he received an overseas phone call from the woman’s husband two days prior. The aggrieved husband informed Karim of the alleged relationship involving Molla and questioned what steps the medical facility intended to take regarding its employee. Karim stated that he replied he was entirely unaware of the situation at the time.
Confirming the disciplinary measure on Tuesday afternoon, Boalmari municipality Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Syed Sajjad Ali stated that Molla was temporarily relieved of his party post based on the initial complaints. An internal investigation is currently underway to ascertain the facts. Ali emphasized that should the allegations be verified during the inquiry, Molla will face permanent expulsion from the party and all associated positions, adding that the organisation bears no responsibility for individual misconduct.
