Police Reach Scene After Attack on GM Quader’s Uttara Residence

The residence of Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader in Uttara, Dhaka, was targeted in an attack on Monday morning, when a group of unidentified individuals threw bricks and stones at the property. The incident occurred at around 10.40 am on 12 October, while Quader was inside the house. No injuries were reported, according to his press secretary, Shourya Dipta Surya.

Surya said the group threw bricks and stones at the residence, prompting the authorities to be informed. Police arrived at the scene after receiving the report. However, no immediate details were available about the attackers’ identities, their motives or whether any suspects had been identified.

The fact that Quader was present at the residence when the attack took place has added to concerns about the security of the senior political figure. Nevertheless, there was no immediate indication that he or anyone else inside the property had been injured.

Surya said Jatiya Party would announce its next course of action at a later stage. He did not provide further details about the measures the party might take in response to the incident, leaving its formal position and any subsequent steps yet to be announced.

The attack has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident and the security of political leaders in their private residences. However, no evidence was immediately available to establish whether the incident was politically motivated, linked to a personal dispute or driven by another reason. It would therefore be premature to attribute responsibility to any individual or group.

A formal statement from the police detailing the incident, the identification of suspects or the progress of any investigation was not immediately available. It also remained unclear whether anyone had been detained or whether legal proceedings had been initiated in connection with the attack.

Establishing the sequence of events and identifying those responsible will be important in determining why the residence was targeted. Further information from the authorities could clarify the circumstances of the incident, while an official response from Jatiya Party may indicate how the organisation intends to proceed.

For now, the information provided by Quader’s press secretary confirms that bricks and stones were thrown at the Jatiya Party chairman’s Uttara residence on Monday morning, police were informed and officers subsequently arrived at the scene. No injuries were reported. The identities of those involved and the motive behind the attack remain unconfirmed.
