Police in Nesarabad upazila of Pirojpur have recovered the body of a 60-year-old man one day after he was reported missing by his family. The deceased was identified as Nirmal Haldar, also known locally as Nirmal Oja, a resident of Paschim Kuriana village under Atghar-Kuriana ইউনিয়ন and son of Bipen Haldar.
According to family members and local residents, Nirmal left home on the evening of 18 May for Kuriana Bazar, as he did on most days. When he failed to return home and could not be contacted after around 8:00 pm, relatives began searching for him in nearby areas. After being unable to locate him, the family filed a general diary at Nesarabad Police Station later that night.
His body was discovered on Tuesday morning, 19 May, beside an abandoned house in Panaullahpur village under Swarupkathi Sadar Union. Local residents informed police after spotting the body, prompting officers to visit the scene and begin an investigation.
Family members said Nirmal had no known personal disputes or enmity with anyone in the area. His nephew, Dilip Haldar, stated that Nirmal regularly wore two gold lockets weighing approximately one and a half bhori in total and was also carrying some cash at the time of his disappearance.
A relative and neighbour, Samiran Roy, said Nirmal was widely known in the locality as an “Oja” and often lent money to people in need. According to the family, he may have been carrying a considerable amount of cash on the day he went missing.
Another neighbour, Amal Roy, said Nirmal frequently provided financial assistance to local residents. He claimed that only a week earlier, Nirmal had lent him Tk 50,000.
Police officials said no gold lockets were found on the deceased, and neither cash nor a mobile phone was recovered from the scene. This has raised suspicion among relatives that robbery may have been a possible motive, although investigators have not yet confirmed any cause of death.
