At least 24 people were injured in a violent multi-vehicle collision involving a passenger bus, a fuel-laden tanker truck, and a student transport bus in Fultola upazila of Khulna district on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. in the Jungnipasha area, triggering panic among locals and bringing traffic on the busy regional highway to a complete standstill for a considerable period.
According to eyewitness accounts and local sources, the accident began when a fuel tanker travelling from Jessore towards Khulna at high speed suffered a sudden tyre burst. The explosion caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The tanker then veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming passenger bus.
In a chain reaction, a second collision followed almost immediately. A student transport bus carrying students from Government BL College in Khulna, which was travelling behind the tanker, was unable to stop in time. In an attempt to avoid the wreckage, the bus swerved but ultimately lost control and became involved in a secondary crash with the already-crippled tanker. All three vehicles sustained severe damage.
Local residents rushed to the scene and began rescue operations before emergency services arrived. Fire service personnel and police later reached the location, recovered the injured, and transported them to various medical facilities.
Eight of the injured were initially admitted to Fultola Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital due to the severity of their conditions. The remaining 16 victims are receiving treatment at Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex in Jessore district. Hospital officials confirmed that several of the injured are students, with a few reported to be in critical condition.

Medical officials stated that several patients remain in serious condition and are under close observation.
The accident also caused severe traffic congestion on both sides of the highway, leaving commuters stranded for hours. Normal traffic flow resumed gradually after the damaged vehicles were removed from the road and clearance operations were completed.
Officer-in-Charge of Fultola Police Station, MM Touhid, confirmed that a total of 24 people were injured in the three-vehicle collision. He added that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and to assess whether any negligence contributed to the incident. Authorities have also indicated that road safety enforcement in the area may be reviewed following the crash.
