Botswana right-arm medium-pacer Nabil Master has established a new world record in Men’s Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket, producing the most economical six-wicket haul in the history of the format. The feat was achieved during an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier match against Mali.
Master, who made his international debut in May 2019, returned to national team selection after a seven-year absence, having played only two matches during his initial breakout year. Two days prior to his record-setting performance, he signaled his form by claiming two wickets for 10 runs. Against Mali, he produced career-best figures of six wickets for just two runs from 2.4 overs.
Match Progression and Strategic Bowling Shift
Mali elected to bat first but faced immediate structural batting collapses, finishing bowled out for a total of 24 runs in 9.4 overs. Master was directly responsible for dismissing six of Mali’s ten batsmen.
Introduced into the attack during the sixth over of the match, Master delivered an initial maiden over. He was brought back for his second over in the eighth over, with Mali’s score standing at 18 runs for the loss of four wickets. Master struck with the first delivery of that over, triggering a lower-order collapse by taking two additional wickets in the same over. He concluded the match in the tenth over by dismissing Mali’s final three batsmen.
The structural and statistical bowling data from Botswana’s dominant defensive performance is detailed in the table below:
| Bowler Name (Botswana) | Overs Bowled | Maiden Overs | Runs Conceded | Wickets Taken | Economy Rate |
| Nabil Master | 2.4 | 1 | 2 | 6 | 0.75 |
| Brandon van Zyl | 2.0 | 1 | 4 | 2 | 2.00 |
| Mmoloki Mooketsi | 2.0 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 1.00 |
| Boemo Kgosiemang | 2.0 | 0 | 11 | 0 | 5.50 |

Historical Comparison and Career Context
With a final economy rate of 0.75, Master broke the previous Men’s T20I world record held by Singaporean bowler Harsha Bharadwaj. In 2024, Bharadwaj claimed six wickets for three runs across four completed overs against Mongolia.
Master’s international career began in May 2019, where he picked up one wicket for 30 runs in his debut match and did not receive a bowling allocation in his second appearance. Following his seven-year absence from the international squad, his return has proved highly successful.
Following Master’s historic bowling display, Botswana’s opening batsmen tracked down the target rapidly, reaching 25 runs without loss in just 2.2 overs to seal a ten-wicket victory.
