Bricklayer Killed Over Money Dispute

A dispute over unpaid money allegedly turned deadly in Lohagara upazila of Narail, where a 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed on Saturday night. Police have launched an investigation into the killing and are searching for the suspected attacker, who remains at large.

The victim, Alinur Fakir, a resident of Kumradanga village under Itna Union, was a professional bricklayer. According to police and local residents, the incident took place at around 10:00pm near Kumradanga Government Primary School.

Witnesses said Alinur had approached Rajib Sheikh, the son of Jahangir Sheikh from the same village, to demand repayment of money that he claimed was owed to him. What began as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the altercation, Rajib allegedly attacked Alinur with a knife, inflicting a serious stab wound to his abdomen before fleeing the scene. Local residents rushed to assist the injured man and transported him to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex. Despite their efforts, doctors declared him dead shortly after he arrived at the hospital.

The killing has shocked residents of the area, where Alinur was known as a day labourer who earned his living through masonry work. Family members and neighbours expressed grief over the incident, describing the fatal violence as a tragic consequence of what was reportedly a financial dispute.

After receiving information about the incident, a team from Lohagara Police Station visited both the crime scene and the hospital to begin a preliminary investigation. Officers collected initial evidence and are working to establish the full sequence of events leading to the fatal stabbing.

The accused, Rajib Sheikh, fled immediately after the attack and had not been located at the time of reporting. As a result, police have not yet been able to obtain his version of events. Efforts to trace and arrest him are continuing.

Ajit Kumar Ray, Inspector (Investigation) of Lohagara Police Station, confirmed that police responded promptly after receiving news of the incident. He said Alinur’s body would be sent to Narail District Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to help determine the precise cause of death and support the ongoing investigation.

Police said legal proceedings are underway and that further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation. Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information about the suspect’s whereabouts to cooperate with law enforcement as the inquiry continues.
