BTS star Jungkook asks fans to respect his personal boundaries

BTS member Jungkook has expressed his frustration over fan behaviour during a recent livestream on the global fan community platform, Weverse. The South Korean pop star addressed viewers directly, calling for greater respect regarding his personal boundaries and autonomy after a barrage of comments repeatedly urged him to go to sleep.

The incident occurred shortly after BTS concluded a major performance in Madrid, Spain. Unwinding after the high-energy show, Jungkook initiated a casual live broadcast to interact with fans, where he was seen drinking beer and scrolling through TikTok videos. The relaxed atmosphere shifted when the comment section became inundated with messages instructing him to end the stream and rest.

Visibly annoyed by the constant interventions, Jungkook did not hold back. “I am sorry, but please do not tell me to go to sleep. I will sleep when I want to,” he stated firmly. He acknowledged the protective nature of his fanbase but clarified that such instructions were unnecessary. “I appreciate your concern, but there is no need to tell me to go to bed early. I am not a child; I am capable of making my own decisions.”

He also shared details regarding his long-standing struggles with insomnia, revealing that he frequently relies on prescribed medication to manage his sleep patterns. Explaining his current state, he said, “I am not sleepy. I have always been like this. I am awake because I choose to be awake.”

His candid remarks have sparked widespread debate across various social media platforms. A significant portion of the BTS fanbase, known collectively as the ‘ARMY’, praised the singer for setting healthy boundaries. Supporters argued that whilst well-meaning concern is understandable, it should never cross the line into controlling a performer’s private life or personal freedom.

The group is currently in the middle of their heavily publicised ‘Arirang World Tour’. Having just completed a sold-out show at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, the band is scheduled to travel to Brussels, Belgium, for their next concerts at the King Baudouin Stadium on 1 and 2 July.
