Real Madrid have officially welcomed Marc Cucurella, with the Spain international presented to supporters at the club’s sports complex in Valdebebas on Monday, 24 August.
The presentation marked the formal beginning of a new chapter for Cucurella, who described his arrival at one of football’s most decorated clubs as a deeply significant moment for both himself and his family. After what he characterised as a long summer of waiting, the defender said the past few weeks had been particularly enjoyable and that he was delighted to finally take his place at the club.
Speaking at the presentation, Cucurella said joining Real Madrid was an honour and expressed pride at wearing the famous white shirt. He also stressed the club’s extraordinary history of success while making it clear that his ambitions extend beyond what Madrid have already achieved.
“For me, wearing the shirt of the best club in the world is a source of great pride,” Cucurella said. “This club has won everything in the past, but there are still trophies to win in the future. I hope this becomes a wonderful chapter and that we can win many trophies together.”
The 27-year-old also spoke enthusiastically about the prospect of playing at the Santiago Bernabéu. Cucurella has previously appeared at the iconic stadium as a visiting player, giving him an insight into the atmosphere surrounding a Real Madrid home fixture. This time, however, he will experience the venue from the other side.
He admitted that he was eager to walk out at the Bernabéu wearing Madrid colours. Having played there as an opponent, he already understands the intensity that can build inside the stadium, particularly when the home side are chasing a result.
Cucurella also referred to one of the defining characteristics of Real Madrid’s footballing identity: their ability to produce extraordinary comebacks. From the opposition side, he has witnessed matches in which Madrid appeared to be heading towards defeat, only for the situation to change dramatically within a matter of minutes.
He recalled the remarkable momentum shifts that have become synonymous with the club, describing situations where a match can appear to be effectively over before Real Madrid suddenly turn it around.
That mentality is now something Cucurella hopes to experience as part of the team rather than as an opponent. His comments suggest that he understands the scale of expectation that comes with joining Madrid, where every major competition brings pressure to compete for silverware.
