A suspected drug dealer has been arrested in Bangladesh’s Manikganj district after officers from the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) recovered 102 yaba tablets and 350 grams of cannabis during a targeted raid in Singair Upazila. The agency said legal proceedings have been initiated against the suspect under the country’s narcotics laws.
According to the DNC, the operation was carried out at around 4:00 pm on Wednesday, 8 July 2026, in the Bairagirtek area under Singair Police Station. The raid was conducted by a special enforcement team from the Manikganj District Office of the Department of Narcotics Control under the overall supervision of Deputy Director Humayun Kabir Khondkar. The team was led by Sub-Inspector Md Jamal Hossain.
Officials said the operation followed intelligence suggesting that illegal narcotics were being stored and distributed from the suspect’s residence. Acting on that information, officers searched the property and recovered 102 yaba tablets along with 350 grams of cannabis. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Md Bijoy Khan, was arrested at the scene.
Investigators stated that the seized narcotics have been taken into official custody as evidence and a regular case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act. The authorities will now continue their investigation to determine whether the accused was acting alone or had links to a wider drug trafficking network operating in the area.
The DNC alleged that Bijoy Khan had been involved in the local drug trade for a considerable period. His arrest followed surveillance and intelligence gathering before the raid was authorised. The suspect is a resident of Bairagirtek village in Singair Upazila of Manikganj district and is the son of Babul Hossain.
Law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh have continued to intensify anti-narcotics operations in recent years as part of broader efforts to curb the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs. Yaba, a methamphetamine-based stimulant, and cannabis remain among the most frequently seized narcotics during nationwide enforcement drives.
In a statement following the operation, the Department of Narcotics Control reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining regular anti-drug campaigns. The agency said it would continue intelligence-based operations and take strict legal action against individuals involved in the production, trafficking, possession and sale of illegal drugs, stressing that no leniency would be shown in the fight against narcotics.
