The 24-year-old Essex County Cricket Club batter, residing on Queens Road in Waltham Forest, is due to appear at Inner London Crown Court on 9 October.
The allegations stem from an incident reported in South London, where a woman was allegedly assaulted in Brixton on 30 March 2024. Following an initial report, Scotland Yard officers arrested Das on 27 August 2025. Metropolitan Police confirmed that formal charges were brought against the sportsman on 23 July 2026. Specialist officers continue to provide support to the complainant throughout the ongoing legal process.
The timeline of the charges intersects directly with Das’s recent appearances on the domestic circuit. His sole senior fixture for Essex in the 2026 campaign came on 21 July, when he opened the batting against Middlesex in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. Das contributed 22 runs to a 57-run opening partnership before being dismissed by bowler Noah Cornwell in a match Middlesex ultimately won by 41 runs.
Formal charges were filed just two days after that fixture. Das has not featured for the Chelmsford-based county since, with the club listing him as unavailable for selection. Addressing the matter, Essex County Cricket Club acknowledged that a contracted player had appeared in court regarding an issue outside of the club’s sporting operations. Officials confirmed they are liaising with relevant regulatory bodies and professional cricket associations, though they declined further comment while judicial proceedings remain active.
Born on 27 February 2002 in Leytonstone, London, Das advanced through the Essex academy and second XI ranks before making his T20 debut at the age of 18 in 2020. His first-class debut arrived in 2023 against a touring Ireland side, where he scored a brilliant 132—a score that remains his highest in the multi-day format across nine first-class appearances. He subsequently proved his versatility in white-ball cricket, striking his maiden List A century with an unbeaten 100 against Nottinghamshire in 2024. By the conclusion of the 2025 season, he had compiled 776 runs across 28 List A matches for Essex.
