In a shocking display of violence, a 25-year-old man was brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight on Tuesday, 17 February 2026. The incident occurred near a school playground in the Binodpur area of Rajbari municipal town, sending waves of panic and grief through the local community. The victim, identified as Zahid Fakir, was the son of Mahatab Fakir and a lifelong resident of the neighbourhood.

According to family and eyewitness accounts, Zahid was at his family home throughout the morning. Shortly after midday, he left to visit the local school field. It was there that he was ambushed by a group of four to five unidentified assailants. Witnesses reported that the attackers, armed with sharp, lethal weapons, set upon Zahid with a flurry of indiscriminate blows.
Drawn by Zahid’s desperate cries for help, local residents rushed to the scene. The attackers managed to flee the area before they could be apprehended. Zahid was immediately transported to Rajbari General Hospital in a critical state; however, the duty physician tragically declared him dead upon arrival due to excessive haemorrhaging.
The investigation has moved swiftly, with the police identifying a primary motive within hours of the crime.

While the victim’s brother, Mamun Fakir, expressed confusion over any potential long-standing feuds, the authorities have uncovered a more specific lead. Russell Mollah, the Inspector of Investigations at Rajbari Sadar Police Station, revealed that the murder appears to be the culmination of a dispute over a relatively minor financial obligation.
Preliminary police intelligence suggests that a local gang of youths claimed Zahid owed them the sum of 3,500 BDT. It is alleged that when Zahid refused to settle the debt during the confrontation at the school field, the youths resorted to lethal force.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajbari Sadar Police Station, Khondokar Ziaur Rahman, confirmed that a formal case is in the process of being filed by the bereaved family. “We have deployed multiple teams to track down the suspects,” he stated. “Although no arrests have been made as of late Tuesday evening, we are following credible leads regarding the identities of the gang involved.”
The community remains on edge as the perpetrators remain at large. The murder of a young man over such a trivial amount has ignited calls for stricter policing of youth gangs in the Rajbari municipal area, with the family demanding a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure swift justice.
