Five-Day Rain Forecast Raises Weather Concerns Across Bangladesh

Bangladesh is likely to experience widespread rainfall for the next five days, with several regions facing the possibility of moderate to heavy downpours, according to the latest weather forecast.

The unsettled weather is linked to a well-marked low-pressure area that was previously positioned over Jharkhand and adjoining Bihar. The system is now located over north-eastern Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring areas and is expected to gradually weaken before potentially merging with the axis of the monsoon trough.

The extended axis of the monsoon trough currently stretches from Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana through Uttar Pradesh, the centre of the low-pressure area, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and central Bangladesh towards Assam. The monsoon remains fairly active over Bangladesh, while moderate activity is expected over the northern Bay of Bengal.

The combination of the low-pressure system and the active monsoon is expected to maintain rain-bearing conditions across much of the country. While rainfall will not necessarily occur continuously in every location, several areas may experience repeated spells of rain and thunderstorms during the forecast period.

On Thursday, from 9am for the following 24 hours, many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions are expected to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied at times by temporary gusty winds. Some parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions may also experience similar weather. Moderate to very heavy rainfall is possible in isolated areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet. Daytime and night-time temperatures may rise slightly across the country.

The weather is expected to remain unsettled on Friday. Many parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Khulna and Sylhet divisions may see light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Some areas of Dhaka, Barishal and Chattogram divisions may also receive rain. Moderate to very heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations, while temperatures across the country could fall slightly during both day and night.

On Saturday, many parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may experience rain or thundershowers. Some parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions are also likely to receive rain accompanied by temporary gusty winds. Isolated areas could see moderate to heavy rainfall. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain broadly unchanged, while night-time temperatures may rise slightly.

The distribution of rainfall may shift towards the southern and south-eastern parts of the country on Sunday. Many areas of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are likely to receive rain or thundershowers, while some parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions may also be affected. Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible in isolated areas. Both daytime and night-time temperatures may increase slightly.

Rainfall is expected to continue into the fifth day. Many areas of Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Some parts of Dhaka, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions may also experience rain. Moderate to heavy rainfall remains possible in isolated areas, while temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

The forecast suggests that rainfall will remain geographically widespread rather than being confined to a single region. The areas most likely to experience frequent rain will vary from day to day, reflecting the movement and weakening of the low-pressure system and the continuing influence of the monsoon trough.

For residents, commuters and those involved in outdoor activities, the possibility of sudden showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds means that weather conditions may change quickly, particularly during periods of active rainfall. Localised heavy rain may also temporarily disrupt normal movement in affected areas.

The prevailing situation is therefore expected to keep Bangladesh under a generally wet weather pattern through the five-day forecast period, with isolated areas at risk of heavier rainfall even as temperatures fluctuate only modestly.
