Fourteen Detained in Netrokona Crackdown on Unauthorised Political Rally

Fourteen members and activists associated with the Bangladesh Chhatra League have been arrested following a swift security response to an unauthorised flash rally in Netrokona’s Purbadhala Upazila. The coordinated operations were carried out by Purbadhala Police Station and the Netrokona District Detective Branch in the early hours of Friday, 28 August, near the Pabai section of the Shyamganj-Birishiri highway.
Trouble brewed shortly before dawn when a contingent of political activists, allegedly organised under the leadership of Hasib Ibn Hannan Ridom—Joint General Secretary of the Netrokona District Chhatra League—gathered along the roadside. Vigilant local village police officers spotted the congregation and raised an immediate alarm with Purbadhala authorities. A police unit dispatched to the scene disrupted the gathering, prompting several individuals to attempt a hasty escape on motorbikes. Officers gave chase, detaining eleven suspects on the spot and impounding three vehicles left behind.
Expanding the investigation, the Detective Branch initiated specialized raids in adjacent jurisdictions later that morning. Detectives picked up two suspects—Arif Jahan Bijoy (19) and Rudra Miah (19)—from Sukhari and Srirampasha within Atpara Upazila, before tracking and apprehending a final suspect in Gouripur, located in neighbouring Mymensingh district.
