Hridoy Named Bangladesh Captain for Zimbabwe T20I Series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe, with Tawhid Hridoy appointed captain in the absence of regular skipper Litton Das.

The decision comes as Bangladesh’s selectors opt to rest Litton Das for the tour, handing the leadership responsibilities to Hridoy, who has established himself as one of the side’s most dependable middle-order batters in recent years. The series offers an opportunity for several players to impress ahead of a busy international schedule, while also allowing the team management to assess squad depth in the shortest format of the game.

Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has also been rested for the series, while Shamim Hossain Patwari and Soumya Sarkar have been left out of the squad. Their omissions indicate the selectors’ willingness to test alternative combinations as Bangladesh continue to refine their Twenty20 plans.

Returning to the national side are Mosaddek Hossain Saikat and Yasir Ali Chowdhury Rabbi, both of whom have previously represented Bangladesh in international cricket. Their inclusion adds experience to a squad that blends established performers with emerging talent. The selectors have retained several players who have featured regularly in Bangladesh’s recent T20I campaigns, reflecting an effort to maintain continuity while creating opportunities for competition within the squad.

The three-match series will be played entirely at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The opening T20 International is scheduled for 15 July, followed by the second match on 17 July. The third and final fixture will take place on 19 July. All three matches are set to begin at 4:30 pm Bangladesh time.

The tour represents another important assignment for Bangladesh as they continue preparations for future global Twenty20 competitions. Away series against Zimbabwe have traditionally provided valuable experience for the Tigers, particularly in adapting to different playing conditions and testing squad combinations outside home conditions.

With senior players being rested and several returning cricketers eager to re-establish themselves, the series is expected to provide a competitive environment for Bangladesh’s next generation of T20 talent. Hridoy’s leadership will also be closely watched, as the young batter takes charge of the national side in what could prove to be a significant milestone in his international career.

Bangladesh T20I squad: Tawhid Hridoy (captain), Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanzid Hasan, Mohammad Saif Hasan, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Yasir Ali Chowdhury Rabbi, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana, Mohammad Saifuddin and Abdul Gaffar Saklain.
