I do not want to yield to this soil

Crossing oceans and wandering beneath distant skies reveals how people across the world weave their dreams. Over the years, countless friends and relatives embarked on their own journeys abroad. Some settled in snow-covered cities, others along tranquil blue coastlines, seeking nations where the word ‘future’ still holds genuine promise.
The allure of life overseas called repeatedly. It offered lucrative opportunities, physical safety, and the peace of mind that comes with living under a stable system. Yet, the choice was made to remain. Leaving proved impossible when every corner of this land echoes with childhood memories. The dust of these streets cradled early youth, and the quiet afternoons were filled with the warmth of parents and grandparents who have since passed away.
Though gone, those loved ones rest beneath this very soil, lying in quiet country graveyards. No matter how brightly foreign lights shone, the hue of the native earth remained fixed in mind. A homeland is never merely a map or a legal boundary; it signifies deep roots, shared heritage, and standing silently beside ancestral graves with a handful of earth. Reaching the twilight of life, however, brings an unsettling sense of alienation within one’s own borders.
Decades spent observing societal shifts have witnessed the steady erosion of core values. Integrity has been sidelined, principled voices silenced, and personal conscience traded for political power and material gain. A pervasive culture of hypocrisy, arrogance, and deceit appears to have taken hold across public life.
Faced with this decline, decent citizens frequently retreat into silence as civility is drowned out by clamour. Those with the means choose emigration, seeking to safeguard their children’s prospects, preserve their dignity, or simply breathe without anxiety. Remaining behind stemmed from a steadfast belief that the nation would eventually transform. There was hope that future generations would inherit a fairer dawn, built upon a land enriched by historic sacrifice, tears, and devotion.
Looking back now, the years suited for dreaming have quietly slipped away. Decades passed in patient anticipation of a normal, just society—a nation where honesty is not dismissed as foolishness and decency incurs no shame.
Modern high-rises now dominate the skyline and urban infrastructure has expanded rapidly, yet fundamental questions remain about true national progress. While physical development accelerates, the moral fabric appears increasingly frayed. Standing on native soil today feels strangely isolating, raising painful doubts about whether staying was a tragic misstep.
Despite the prevailing fatigue and disappointment, hatred for the homeland remains impossible. The soil retains the lingering warmth of childhood, family, and lifelong devotion. Deep within the disillusionment, a flickering ember of hope persists—a belief that integrity will one day find its rightful place, and future generations will no longer feel compelled to abandon their birthplace in search of a secure life.
