Background and Last Contact
Md Mokaram Mia was the son of Sohrab Mia, a resident of Talshahar village under the Ashuganj Police Station in Brahmanbaria. He had been living and working in Saudi Arabia for approximately three and a half years.
According to Rifat, who cited information provided by Mokaram’s wife, Jonaki Begum, the family last had direct contact with Mokaram on the afternoon of 13 May via the communication application Imo. During the conversation, Mokaram did not disclose his specific geographic location. Following that final call, his mobile phone remained switched off, causing growing concern among his relatives.
Subsequent inquiries by the family revealed that Mokaram had abruptly decided to return to Bangladesh. On 14 May, the family spoke with one of Mokaram’s colleagues residing in Saudi Arabia. The colleague disclosed that Mokaram had departed for Bangladesh during the night of 13 May. Prior to his departure, he had left several personal belongings in the custody of the said colleague. Beyond this timeline, the family remained unaware of his travel itinerary or his arrival in Dhaka.
Discovery and Identification
The breakthrough in the investigation occurred on Sunday night when the police notified the family that a body matching his description was being held at the DMCH morgue. Law enforcement officials utilised biometric fingerprint analysis to conclusively verify Mokaram’s identity.
The recovery of the victim’s remains by the police transpired in two distinct phases within the Mugda locality:
Initial Discovery (Sunday): Police recovered seven severed body parts wrapped in polythene bags from the Manda area of Mugda. The head was missing from this initial recovery site.
Subsequent Discovery (Sunday Night): Following further investigation, a severed head, also wrapped in a polythene bag, was retrieved from the nearby Maniknagar area.
