In a shocking incident in Gaibandha’s Sadullapur Upazila, two men were beaten to death on suspicion of robbery early on Friday morning. The attack occurred in the Mozahidpur area of Khodkomorpur Union.
The deceased have been identified as Lebu Mia, also known as Bhondol (24), son of the late Lal Mia Sheikh of Satarpara village, Betkapa Union, Palashbari Upazila, and Moinul Islam (50), son of the late Danoj Mia of Mastapur village. Their identities were confirmed by Sarwar Alam Khan, Officer-in-Charge of Palashbari Police Station.
According to police and local sources, the incident unfolded around 4:30 am. A woman, accompanied by a relative, alighted from a long-distance bus that had arrived from Dhaka at Thutiapukur area of Palashbari Upazila. As they proceeded along the Sadullapur–Thutiapukur road, they reached the Madarhat ferry point (near a broken bridge) in Idilpur Union, Sadullapur, where three men allegedly attempted to rob them.
The victims claimed that the assailants, armed with sharp weapons, threatened them and forcibly took money and gold jewellery. Their screams attracted nearby residents, who pursued the alleged robbers in an attempt to intervene.
Fleeing on a motorcycle, the suspects lost control of the vehicle near Mozahidpur and were thrown onto the road. Local residents then reportedly beat two of the men to death at the scene, while the third suspect managed to escape.
Sadullapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Alim confirmed that a case is being prepared. “Upon receiving the news, police rushed to the site, recovered the two bodies along with a motorcycle, and sent the bodies to Gaibandha General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. The incident is under investigation,” he said.
