Iranian Missile Strike Damages Three Israeli Aircraft

Three civilian aircraft were severely damaged at Israel’s main international airport, Ben Gurion, following a missile strike launched from Iran, with one plane reportedly catching fire during the incident.

The airport authorities confirmed on Wednesday that the damage occurred after fragments from intercepted Iranian missiles fell onto the tarmac. Israel’s missile defence systems successfully neutralised the incoming projectiles, but debris from the explosions caused significant harm to aircraft stationed on the ground.

Officials stated that the damage occurred over the past few days. The ownership of the affected aircraft has not been disclosed, and no injuries among airport personnel or passengers have been reported.

The attack is part of the ongoing escalation between Iran and Israel, which began on 28 February with a series of reciprocal strikes. Since then, regular commercial flights through Ben Gurion Airport have been suspended. Nevertheless, several Israeli airlines have been operating limited flights to repatriate citizens stranded abroad. The airport is also currently utilised by Israeli and United States military forces for strategic operations.

Experts have noted that nearly half of the Iranian missiles that entered Israeli airspace were equipped with cluster munitions. These weapons disperse multiple smaller explosive devices over a wide area, increasing the potential for widespread damage on impact.

Images published by The Times of Israel show one aircraft engulfed in flames from falling debris, while the other two suffered severe structural damage. An airport spokesperson confirmed:

“Three civilian aircraft were damaged by debris from intercepted missiles.”
