South Korean singer Jennie Kim has emerged as one of the most recognisable figures in the global K-pop industry. As a member of BLACKPINK, she helped take Korean pop music to audiences around the world, while her solo career, fashion influence and distinctive artistic identity have established her as a major international star.
Jennie made her official debut in 2016 under YG Entertainment as a member of BLACKPINK. The group introduced itself to the world with its debut single album ‘Square One’, featuring the songs ‘Whistle’ and ‘Boombayah’. Both tracks quickly became major successes, drawing widespread attention to the group and helping Jennie gain recognition as one of the leading new faces of K-pop.
Before becoming a member of BLACKPINK, Jennie had already gained experience in the music industry. She collaborated with several artists, including South Korean rapper and singer G-Dragon, which helped her develop her skills and confidence as a performer. These early experiences later contributed to her growth as both a group member and a solo artist.
Jennie began her solo career in November 2018 with the release of ‘Solo’. The song became a significant milestone in her career, receiving strong support from fans and proving her ability to succeed beyond group activities. The track highlighted her unique style, combining elements of pop and hip-hop while showcasing her vocal and performance abilities.
After several years, Jennie returned with another solo release, ‘You & Me’, in 2023. The song received an enthusiastic response from fans worldwide and reinforced her position as one of the most influential individual artists in the K-pop scene.
Towards the end of 2023, Jennie established her own company, Odd Atelier, to manage her personal projects and expand her creative activities independently. Through the label, she has been developing her solo career while exploring new artistic directions.
In 2024, Jennie released ‘Mantra’, a track that marked another step in her evolving musical journey. The following year, she released her first full-length studio album, ‘Ruby’. The album achieved notable international success, debuting at number seven on the Billboard 200 chart. The achievement strengthened her reputation as a solo performer capable of competing on the global music stage.
Despite her individual success, Jennie continues to remain an active member of BLACKPINK. The group has maintained its worldwide popularity through major tours and new releases, including their third EP, also titled ‘Deadline’. BLACKPINK’s global fan base remains one of the largest in the music industry, with Jennie playing a central role in the group’s continuing success.
Beyond music, Jennie has become a powerful influence in the fashion world. Her long-standing association with luxury fashion house Chanel has made her a prominent figure at international fashion events. Known for her elegant style and trend-setting choices, she has become a role model for many young fans around the world.
Jennie’s career reflects the changing landscape of modern entertainment, where artists are no longer limited to a single field. From leading one of K-pop’s biggest groups to building a successful solo identity and becoming a global fashion figure, she continues to expand her influence across music and popular culture.
