A long-standing property dispute in Dhaka’s Keraniganj upazila escalated into open violence when an armed mob attacked a residential compound, flattening three semi-built (semi-pucca) structures and destroying fruit trees on the disputed site. The incident took place in the Madhya Baluchar area under Hazratpur Union, leaving the victim family displaced and sparking tension throughout the local community.

According to the affected household, the confrontation stems from a multi-year ownership and boundary conflict with their neighbours, identified as Aslam and Salam Miah. The matter remains pending before the court, which had previously issued a temporary injunction instructing all involved parties to maintain the status quo on the plot.

Despite the active judicial restraint, an aggressive crowd of roughly 40 to 50 individuals allegedly entered the property carrying traditional weapons. The gang systematically dismantled the three residential units before completely razing them. Aside from structural ruin, the family reported that the assailants chopped down several mature fruit-bearing trees surrounding the homestead. The victims also accused the attackers of looting cash reserves and valuable personal belongings during the raid.

Land boundary disputes represent one of the primary drivers of civil litigation and localized unrest across Bangladesh. In rapidly expanding peri-urban regions like Keraniganj, where infrastructure growth has driven real estate values upward over the past decade, property clashes frequently spill over into physical confrontations. Legal experts emphasize that temporary injunctions are designed to preserve the physical state of a site while the judiciary examines title deeds. When such orders are breached, civil friction often transforms into a criminal breach of the peace.

Following the assault, the victimized family submitted a formal written complaint to the Keraniganj Model Police Station, detailing the property damage, alleged theft, and violation of court directives. Police officers have initiated an inquiry to verify the assertions, evaluate the extent of financial loss, and determine whether the judicial order was compromised. The accused parties, Aslam and Salam Miah, have not yet issued a public statement regarding the allegations. Local residents and the affected family have demanded a swift, impartial investigation to restore order and ensure personal security.
