An Islamic religious teacher in the Noakhali Sadar sub-district has been handed over to law enforcement authorities after being beaten by a local mob over the alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old pupil. The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Maulana Mobarak Hossain Emran, son of Golam Kibria, was intercepted by residents in the Ashwadia Union following alarming disclosures regarding the child’s physical health.

According to family members and local law enforcement, the victim had exhibited noticeable changes in behaviour and academic performance over recent months, which initially led her parents to reprimand her. However, a worsening shift in her physical condition prompted the family to seek medical evaluation at a private hospital. During the consultation, the young girl disclosed that her instructor had repeatedly assaulted her over a five-to-six-month period during private tuition sessions conducted at his residence.

Word of the disclosure spread rapidly throughout the neighbourhood, igniting widespread anger amongst community members. Outraged residents confronted and physically assaulted the instructor before officers from Sudharam Police Station, alerted to the civil unrest, arrived to intervene. Police officers extracted the suspect from the crowd and brought him into custody. Owing to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred under police escort to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital later that evening for medical treatment.

Sudharam Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Md. Nazrul Islam, confirmed that an investigation into the allegations is actively underway. Authorities are gathering forensic evidence and statement recordings to proceed with formal legal action under statutory laws governing offences against women and children.

While community outrage over child exploitation often runs high in rural districts, legal experts and law enforcement officials continue to reiterate that vigilante justice undermines the judicial process. Official channels stress that public cooperation in reporting crimes, combined with rigorous forensic investigations and formal prosecution through the courts, remains the strictly legal mechanism for securing justice while upholding public order.
