A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram after law enforcement personnel recovered 9,150 yaba tablets from a cowshed beside his family home.
The suspect, identified as Taslim, was detained during an operation conducted by CPC-3 of SRB-07 on Thursday (22 October). The operation led investigators from Chattogram city to Akubdandi village in Popadia Union, where the drugs were discovered.
Taslim is the son of Zafar Ahmed, a resident of Abdur Rahman Ghosh Bari in Akubdandi village under Popadia Union.
According to sources within CPC-3 of SRB-07, the operation began following confidential intelligence concerning the suspect. Acting on the information, law enforcement personnel initially detained Taslim in front of a showroom in the Chandgaon area of Chattogram city.
During subsequent questioning, Taslim reportedly provided information that prompted the officers to search his residence in Boalkhali.
The team subsequently travelled to Akubdandi village and searched the property. At approximately 8:30 pm on Thursday, officers discovered 9,150 yaba tablets inside a cowshed situated next to the residential building.
Following the recovery, the suspect and the seized drugs were handed over to Boalkhali Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Sub-Inspector Ningwai Marma of Boalkhali Police Station confirmed the handover, saying that CPC-3 of SRB-07 had transferred Taslim into police custody along with the 9,150 yaba tablets.
Inspector (Investigation) Md Nurul Alam of Boalkhali Police Station said a regular case had been filed against the suspect under the Narcotics Control Act.
He confirmed that Taslim was produced before a court on Friday (23 October), a day after the operation.
Yaba, a synthetic stimulant commonly associated with methamphetamine and caffeine, remains a significant concern for law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh. Its possession, trafficking and distribution are criminal offences under the country’s narcotics legislation.
The discovery of such a substantial quantity of tablets in a structure adjoining a residential property has brought attention to the circumstances surrounding the seizure. However, authorities have not disclosed whether the drugs were intended for local distribution or transportation elsewhere.
Investigators have also not provided details about the origin of the seized tablets, their estimated market value or whether other individuals are suspected of involvement.
The operation involved two locations: Chandgaon in Chattogram city, where Taslim was initially detained, and Akubdandi village in Boalkhali, where the narcotics were subsequently recovered.
The sequence of events, as described by the authorities, indicates that information obtained during questioning played a central role in locating the drugs.
Police have confirmed the arrest, seizure and initiation of legal proceedings. Any further determination of the suspect’s involvement, the source of the narcotics or a possible wider distribution network will depend on the findings of the investigation.
Taslim remains an accused person in the case, and the allegations against him have yet to be established through judicial proceedings.
