Police in Sharsha Upazila, Jessore, have arrested a 35-year-old man, identified as Alam Gazi, on charges of attempted rape and physical assault of a three-year-old girl. According to police reports and statements from the victim’s family, the incident occurred on Friday morning. The accused, Alam Gazi, allegedly lured the toddler away from her immediate surroundings by promising her “Kativaja” (a local snack). He reportedly took the child to a room adjacent to her house.
Once inside, the suspect allegedly attempted to sexually assault the minor. During the ordeal, he reportedly inflicted physical injuries on the child, including bite marks on various parts of her body. The child’s screams alerted passersby on the nearby road, who rushed toward the scene. Realising that he was about to be discovered, the suspect fled the premises immediately.

Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a formal written complaint at the Sharsha Police Station. Acting on this complaint, law enforcement officials conducted a raid on Friday night and successfully apprehended Alam Gazi in Sarupdah village.
Maruf Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sharsha Police Station, confirmed that a case has been registered under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. He stated that the victim is currently undergoing medical examinations to document the extent of her injuries and provide forensic evidence for the prosecution.
