The incident allegedly took place at a flat in the Bekabridge area of Paglakanai, on the outskirts of Jhenaidah town. The accused, identified as Palash Hossain, is a resident of Gabla village in Shailkupa upazila of the district. He works at a private eye hospital in Jhenaidah town.
Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Asaduzzaman confirmed the arrest and the subsequent court proceedings.
According to the complaint cited by police, Palash and the woman, who is from Defalbari village in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila, married with the consent of their families. Their marriage lasted six years before they divorced on 19 February 2026. At the time of their separation, they had a daughter who was two years and three months old.
Following the divorce, the woman moved with her young daughter to a flat in the Paglakanai Bekabridge area near the district town.
The complaint alleges that Palash went to the flat at around 8 pm on 11 October. He is accused of entering the bedroom and raping the woman. When residents of other flats heard her cries and rushed to the scene, the accused allegedly fled.
The woman lodged a complaint with Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station on 12 October. Police subsequently arrested Palash and produced him before a court. The court ordered that he be sent to jail, the officer-in-charge said.
The allegations concern a serious criminal offence, but the case remains subject to the legal process. The accusation has not, by itself, established the defendant’s guilt, which must be determined through the judicial proceedings.
The case also highlights the importance of responding promptly to allegations of sexual violence and ensuring that complainants can seek help through the police and the courts. Any investigation must establish the facts and proceed in accordance with the law, while protecting the privacy and dignity of the woman involved.
Police have confirmed the arrest and the court’s remand-to-custody order. No further details about the investigation or subsequent court proceedings were provided in the available account.
