A 35-year-old man, identified as Arif Sheikh, was hacked to death by adversaries on Friday night in the Latifpur Colony area of Bogura municipality. The fatal assault occurred at approximately midnight outside the Preeti Government Primary School, in what authorities suspect was a targeted killing stemming from a long-standing dispute.
Arif Sheikh was the son of Mohammed Aziz Sheikh, a resident of the Latifpur Colony locality. According to family members and local sources, the victim had been embroiled in a bitter, protracted feud with a rival group regarding a financial transaction involving approximately ten lakh taka (£6,500). Relatives alleged that several individuals from the opposing faction had been actively searching for Arif since Friday afternoon.
Taking advantage of the midnight hour when the victim was completely isolated, the assailants reportedly ambushed him with sharp weapons. Arif was subjected to a indiscriminate and brutal physical assault, sustaining critical injuries. The attackers left him bleeding profusely on the road and fled the scene immediately after ensuring his demise.
At approximately 1:00 am, local residents discovered the bloodstained body lying on the street and promptly alerted the Bogura Sadar Police Station. Law enforcement officials arrived shortly after to secure the crime scene and recover the deceased. The body was subsequently transported to the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
While the victim’s family maintains that the homicide was entirely motivated by the pre-existing monetary conflict, local law enforcement agencies are exploring all possible angles. Investigators revealed that the deceased had a notable criminal record, with local records indicating that Arif Sheikh was a named suspect in multiple pending cases, including charges related to murder, illegal firearms possession, narcotics trafficking, and mugging.
Senior police officials have stated that rigorous drives and investigative procedures are underway to determine the definitive motive behind the assassination, identify the perpetrators, and bring them to justice. No arrests have been formalised at the time of reporting.
