In the Dhaka-8 constituency, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) candidate Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed has been declared the unofficial winner, securing a victory margin of 5,239 votes over his nearest rival, Mohammad Nasiruddin Patwari of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
The result was announced in the early hours of Friday morning, around 3:45 am, by the Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka, who also served as the Returning Officer, Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury. According to Chowdhury, voting took place at 108 out of 109 designated centres in the constituency.
Vote Breakdown
Mirza Abbas obtained 56,552 votes from in-person ballots and an additional 2,814 postal votes, bringing his total to 59,366 votes. Mohammad Nasiruddin Patwari, meanwhile, secured 51,572 in-person votes and 2,555 postal votes, totaling 54,127 votes. This results in a clear lead of 5,239 votes for the BNP candidate.
Other candidates in the constituency fared as follows: Kefayet Ullah Hatpakha of Islami Andolon Bangladesh received 1,436 votes, while Meghna Alam, representing the Ganadhikar Parishad and contesting under the truck symbol, garnered 608 votes.
