A horrific late-night home invasion in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar, has left a mother and her school-age daughter fighting for their lives after being subjected to a brutal gang-rape during an armed robbery. The sheer savagery of the crime has sparked widespread public outrage and a profound sense of insecurity across the region. According to local residents and police sources, the harrowing incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday (8 June) between 2:30 am and 3:00 am. The attack took place within the jurisdiction of the Matamuhuri Investigation Centre in Chakaria upazila. An organised gang of eight to ten armed criminals launched a premeditated assault on the isolated residence, cutting through the iron grilles of a window to gain entry.

The victims, suffering from severe physical trauma and catastrophic blood loss, were initially rescued by neighbours and officers, who rushed them to the Chakaria Upazila Health Complex. As their conditions deteriorated rapidly due to excessive internal haemorrhaging, medical staff transferred them to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for specialised emergency intervention.
Speaking to the press, the schoolgirl’s maternal uncle, Saidul Islam Maruf, expressed grave concern over her survival. He revealed that his niece remains under close observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to life-threatening injuries. Physicians have warned that both mother and daughter face an arduous, long-term road to recovery to overcome the profound physical and psychological trauma inflicted upon them.
