A man identified as Rubel Islam (36) was allegedly killed by having his throat slit in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur following a dispute over a motorcycle. The incident later came to light when the vehicle used to transport the body overturned in a roadside ditch while the accused were allegedly attempting to dispose of the remains.
The incident took place at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday at the Baitala area of the Satkhira–Mohammadpur road in Haatkholarchar village under Moyna Union of Boalmari upazila. The deceased, Rubel Islam, was the son of Golam Sarwar Sheikh from Sindhain village in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura district. He worked as a power tiller operator.
According to police and family sources, Shahidul Sheikh of Haatkholarchar village married the daughter of Sahidul Islam of Sindhain village around two years ago. Since the marriage, the couple had reportedly been experiencing marital disputes. Recently, Shahidul Sheikh allegedly mortgaged a motorcycle belonging to his brother-in-law, which led to further tension between the two families.
Rubel’s uncle Musa Molla stated that Rubel was taken to Boalmari at noon after being requested by a neighbour in connection with retrieving the motorcycle. As Rubel knew how to drive, he accompanied the group. A verbal altercation reportedly took place between Shahidul Sheikh and his family members regarding the return of the motorcycle. After the initial dispute, they were returning when they were allegedly called back over the phone, following which the killing occurred. The family claims Rubel had no prior enmity or personal relationship with those accused.
Police reported that after the killing, the accused placed the body in a hired private car in an attempt to dispose of it. During transportation, the vehicle lost control and fell into a roadside ditch. The occupants reportedly attempted to present the incident as a road accident. However, local residents who arrived to assist in recovering the vehicle discovered a bloodstained, throat-slit body wrapped in a sack inside the car.
Out of five people present in the vehicle, three fled the scene, while two individuals—Shahzada (23) and Topu Saha (22)—were detained by locals and handed over to police.
