Pregnant Wife Murder Allegation

A disturbing incident has been reported from Satkhira Sadar upazila in Bangladesh, where a five-month pregnant woman is alleged to have been killed by her husband following prolonged domestic disputes. The incident occurred on Saturday night, 16 May, at around 11:30 p.m. in the Lakhmidari area under Bhomra Union.

The deceased has been identified as Taslima Khatun (38), daughter of Nuruzzaman from North Behara village in Satkhira Sadar upazila. Her husband, Saddam Hossain (42), son of Lutfur Rahman from Lakhmidari village, has been accused in connection with the killing. The couple has two children—a 12-year-old daughter and a 9-year-old son.

According to family members, the relationship between the couple had long been strained due to repeated domestic conflicts. The victim’s daughter, Sadia Khatun, stated that her parents frequently quarrelled, and her father often threatened to kill her mother with a knife during heated arguments. She further recounted that on the night of the incident, her father had initially been sleeping in another room. Later, around 11 p.m., he allegedly called her mother out and took her to another room. Shortly afterwards, she heard suspicious noises and attempted to leave her room but found the door locked. At that moment, she realised that something serious had happened to her mother.

The victim’s father, Nuruzzaman, alleged that Saddam Hossain had been physically abusing his daughter for a long time over dowry demands. He claimed that whenever money was provided, the situation would temporarily improve, but the abuse would resume afterwards. He also stated that he was informed by phone at around 11:30 p.m. that his daughter had been murdered by having her throat slit. He demanded the maximum punishment for the accused to prevent such brutal incidents in the future.

Police have confirmed that the incident appears to have stemmed from ongoing domestic and family disputes. The body of the deceased has been recovered and sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities have stated that further legal action will be taken following the investigation.
