Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has married his long-term partner, model and influencer Georgina Rodríguez, in an intimate ceremony in the coastal Portuguese town of Cascais.
The couple tied the knot on Tuesday in a private gathering attended by their five children, according to Agence France-Presse. The ceremony was deliberately kept away from the public spotlight, with only close family and guests present for the occasion.
Ronaldo himself confirmed the marriage on social media. He shared a photograph showing his and Georgina’s hands, with wedding rings clearly visible on both. Alongside the image, the footballer posted the brief caption, ‘S ❤️ G’, signalling the start of a new chapter in their relationship.
Ronaldo and Rodríguez began their relationship in 2016, when Georgina was working at a Gucci store in Madrid. At the time, Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid and was already one of the most recognisable figures in world football. Rodríguez later described their first meeting as a case of love at first sight.
In an interview with Vogue Arabia in 2025, Rodríguez recalled the immediate sense of calm and familiarity she felt when she first met Ronaldo. Their relationship subsequently developed over the years, with the couple building a family life together away from the footballer’s demanding professional career.
Their engagement was announced publicly on 11 August last year, when Rodríguez posted a photograph of a large ring on social media. Her accompanying message read: ‘Yes, I do. In this life and in all my lives.’ The announcement attracted widespread attention from their millions of followers around the world.
At 41, Ronaldo remains one of the most decorated players in football history. His senior career has taken him from Sporting Lisbon to Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus before his move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. His extraordinary goalscoring record has placed him within reach of the 1,000-goal landmark, with the original report putting his tally at 976. He has also won the Ballon d’Or five times.
Ronaldo has continued to represent Portugal on the international stage. At the 2026 Fifa World Cup, he appeared at a record sixth edition of the men’s tournament. Argentina captain Lionel Messi has also featured at six World Cups, matching the landmark achieved by Ronaldo.
While Ronaldo has remained a global sporting superstar, Rodríguez has established a public profile of her own. Her modelling career, social media presence and Netflix series I Am Georgina, which follows aspects of her personal and family life, have helped make her a familiar figure internationally.
The couple’s influence also extends beyond football and entertainment. They have interests and investments connected with areas including fashion and the hotel business, while their combined social media following exceeds 750 million.
Their wedding marks the formalisation of a relationship that began a decade ago. After years of sharing a home, raising their children and maintaining highly visible public careers, Ronaldo and Rodríguez have now officially become husband and wife, with their five children present as they celebrated the occasion together in Portugal.
