West Bengal singer Rupankar Bagchi and Bangladeshi singer-songwriter Joy Shahriar have released a joint album, ‘Gaaner Pothe Dekha’, bringing together eight songs created through their longstanding musical association.
Released under the banner of Aajob Records, the album features an equal share of vocal performances from the two artistes. Rupankar has sung four tracks, while Joy Shahriar performs the other four. Joy has composed all eight songs included in the album.
The collection features lyrics by several Bangladeshi writers, including Kabir Bakul, Someshwar Oli, Mahmud Manjur, Ishtiaq Ahmed, Maruf Hasan and Joy Shahriar. Their contributions form the lyrical foundation of the eight-track project, with Joy’s compositions connecting the songs across the album.
The tracklist includes ‘Nei Je Proyojon’, ‘Kemon Kore’, ‘Aay Phirey’, ‘Sholo Anai Michhe’, ‘Kemon Achho Tumi’, ‘Tumi’, ‘Oshukh’ and ‘Bhalo Achhi’. The songs were produced at different stages of Rupankar and Joy’s collaboration and have now been brought together in a single release.
For Rupankar, the album represents the latest outcome of a musical relationship that has continued for almost a decade. Reflecting on their work together, he said he had been collaborating with Joy for nearly 10 years and regarded him as one of his favourite lyricists and composers in Bangladesh.
Rupankar said he was delighted that songs they had worked on at different times were now being released together as an album. He also expressed the hope that listeners would enjoy the collection.
Joy Shahriar has spoken equally warmly about his association with Rupankar. Describing the West Bengal singer as an artiste and person who is very dear to him, Joy said working with him had always been a joyful and enriching experience.
Joy also praised Rupankar’s talent as a Bangla-language singer, saying his ability distinguishes him among artistes who perform in the language. He described the new album as one of the most cherished achievements of his musical career.
The project also highlights the continuing creative connection between musicians from Bangladesh and West Bengal. The two regions share a language and a closely connected musical culture, allowing artistes to collaborate across geographical boundaries while reaching audiences familiar with the same linguistic tradition.
Rather than being created solely as a new collaboration, ‘Gaaner Pothe Dekha’ gathers work that has emerged from Rupankar and Joy’s relationship over several years. The album therefore offers a consolidated look at their musical partnership, with Joy’s compositions and the two singers’ performances forming its central elements.
With four songs performed by each artiste, eight compositions by Joy Shahriar and lyrics from six writers, the album brings together a broad creative contribution within a compact collection. For Rupankar and Joy, it marks another chapter in a partnership that has developed through years of shared work and musical exchange.
