A major criminal investigation has been launched in Satkhira following the severe sexual assault of an eight-year-old schoolgirl. The young victim, a second-grade primary student, sustained critical physical injuries and is currently undergoing emergency medical intervention at the Satkhira Medical College Hospital. Local law enforcement authorities have registered a formal criminal case following an official complaint lodged by the child’s mother on Monday afternoon.
The harrowing incident occurred on Sunday evening within the Satkhira Sadar jurisdiction. According to family members, hospital staff, and preliminary police briefings, a local teenager allegedly lured the young girl to the rooftop of a neighbouring residence under the false pretext of offering her fresh guavas. It was on this isolated rooftop that the assault took place. When the young child began crying hysterically, the suspect brought her down from the roof. The victim’s aunt, alerted by the audible distress, approached the scene, causing the teenager—subsequently identified as a sixth-grade student at a local madrasa—to flee the area immediately to evade capture.
As the child suffered acute haemorrhaging as a result of the attack, terrified relatives rushed her directly to the Satkhira Sadar Hospital. Medical personnel at the emergency department worked under intense pressure to contain the severe blood loss. Dr Sudeshna Sarkar, the medical officer on duty at the emergency wing, confirmed the precarious state of the child upon arrival. She noted that the victim was admitted at approximately 10:00 pm on Sunday night in a critical condition, exhibiting extensive bleeding. The medical team administered four emergency stitches as part of their initial trauma management, but given the severe nature of her injuries, she was transferred to the specialist units at Satkhira Medical College Hospital.
The child’s recovery remains a matter of close clinical observation. Commenting on the victim’s current prognosis, Professor Kamrun Nahar, Head of the Gynaecology Department at the Satkhira Medical College Hospital, stated that comprehensive treatment protocols are actively being pursued. She emphasised that it is far too premature to provide a definitive assessment of her physical recovery, indicating that a clearer picture regarding her long-term physiological stability would only emerge over the coming days.
Following urgent notifications from hospital staff, Sub-Inspector Pradip Kumar of the Satkhira Sadar Police Station visited the medical facility to interview the family and secure vital preliminary evidence. The legal process has moved into motion rapidly.
Confirming the administrative progression of the inquiry, Masudur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Satkhira Sadar Police Station, stated that the victim’s mother formally filed the assault case at approximately 5:00 pm on Monday. The station chief reassured the public that the case is being handled with the utmost gravity, adding that dedicated police units are actively conducting targeted raids across the district to apprehend the runaway suspect.
