Electricity supply will be suspended for seven hours in areas served by the Ulipur zonal office in Kurigram on Tuesday to allow urgent maintenance of a 33-kilovolt (kV) power line and the cutting of trees and vegetation near the line.
The planned interruption will run from 8am to 3pm, according to information released by the Ulipur zonal office of the Kurigram-Lalmonirhat Palli Bidyut Samity on Monday, 12 October.
The temporary shutdown is required to carry out maintenance work on the 33kV line and clear vegetation along its route. Electricity distribution authorities periodically undertake such work to maintain the safety and reliability of power infrastructure. Trees and overhanging branches close to overhead lines can pose risks, particularly when they come into contact with electrical equipment or are affected by adverse weather.
During the scheduled interruption, households, shops and other electricity users within the affected service area may face temporary disruption to their normal activities. Businesses relying on electrical equipment could also experience difficulties, while residents may need to adjust their daily routines around the outage.
However, the announcement did not provide a detailed list of the specific localities that will be affected. Customers seeking to establish whether their premises fall within the shutdown area may therefore need to contact the local electricity office for clarification.
Chirendra Nath Roy, acting deputy general manager of the Ulipur zonal office, said the temporary suspension was necessary to complete the urgent maintenance work. He apologised to customers for the inconvenience caused by the interruption.
The authorities have indicated that electricity could be restored before the scheduled time if the work is completed early. The actual restoration time will depend on how quickly the maintenance and vegetation clearance can be completed safely.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas may wish to make arrangements in advance, particularly if they depend on electricity for essential household tasks, commercial operations or other time-sensitive activities. Where possible, electricity-dependent work can be completed before 8am, while businesses may need to plan for the temporary loss of power.
The seven-hour suspension is intended to provide the necessary window for maintenance crews to carry out the work. Normal electricity supply is expected to resume once the work has been completed, although an earlier restoration remains possible if the schedule permits.
