Police have seized 60 bottles of liquor produced by Carew & Co and five litres of illicitly distilled alcohol during a raid on the Daulatdia brothel area in Goalanda upazila, Rajbari district. A 55-year-old woman, identified as Nargis Akter, was detained during the operation.
The raid was conducted by a team from Goalanda Ghat Police Station between 6pm and 8pm on Monday, 12 October. Officers searched the homes of Nargis Akter, also known as Nargis Baryali, and a 60-year-old man named Lalmia Baryali as part of an operation based on confidential information.
According to police, 60 bottles of Carew & Co liquor were recovered from Nargis’s residence, while five litres of locally distilled alcohol were found at Lalmia’s house. Nargis was detained at the scene. Lalmia and other people reportedly managed to flee before they could be apprehended.
Nargis Akter is the wife of the late Rob Molla and is from North Daulatdia, police said.
Goalanda Ghat Police Station officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam said officers acted on a tip-off and carried out searches at the two properties. He confirmed the seizure of both types of alcohol and the detention of Nargis.
Police are continuing efforts to locate Lalmia and the other people who fled during the operation. The officer-in-charge said preparations were under way to file a case under the Narcotics Control Act.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances in which the alcohol was stored and whether other individuals were involved. Police have not provided further details about the source of the recovered liquor or whether it was intended for sale or distribution.
The seizure includes two distinct categories of alcohol: bottled liquor identified by police as a Carew & Co product, and five litres of locally distilled alcohol. The items were recovered from separate residences during the same operation. Any further legal action will depend on the investigation and the evidence gathered by the authorities.
No additional information was provided about the identities of the other people who escaped or when they might be arrested. Police said efforts to apprehend them were continuing.
The case remains at the preliminary stage, with formal proceedings being prepared. The investigation will determine the involvement, if any, of the detained woman and the other individuals in relation to the recovered alcohol.
