Law enforcement agencies in Chattogram’s Sitakunda upazila have arrested six individuals identified as activists of the student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League following an attempted unauthorised procession. The operation took place on Friday afternoon near the number five bridge area along the Faujdarhat-Bayazid Link Road, a strategic thoroughfare connecting regional sub-districts.
According to local police accounts, the group had assembled with the intention of staging a sudden rally and causing public disruption. Prompt intelligence sharing enabled officers from the Sitakunda Model Police Station and the Faujdarhat police outpost to mobilise swiftly and rush to the scene. Upon spotting the approaching law enforcement units, several members of the gathering managed to scatter and flee into the surrounding terrain, but officers successfully intercepted and detained six participants after a brief pursuit.
Authorities have identified the arrested suspects as Jamshed (30) and Shakib (24) from the Noapara area of Raozan, Sabbir Hossain (24) from Kachukhain, Mamunur Rahman Maruf (22) from the Baluchar area of Bayazid, Arman (24) from Fatepur in Hathazari, and Adnan Habib (21) from the Notunpara locality of Chikandandi Union in Hathazari.
Inspector Rubel Afrad, in charge of the Faujdarhat police outpost, confirmed the details of the operation to the press. He stated that the group attempted to orchestrate a provocative gathering in defiance of public order regulations. Preparations are currently underway to file formal charges against all six detained individuals under the stringent provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Following preliminary interrogations, the suspects will be produced before a local judicial court for formal remand proceedings as investigations continue to track down those who escaped.
