A case has been filed against a teacher at Gumanatali Fazil (Degree) Madrasa and two students over allegations involving the rape of a 12-year-old Class Six student in Shyamnagar, Satkhira. The girl’s family alleges that the teacher, Nur Alam, drugged and raped her while she was receiving private tuition around seven months ago. Her relatives say she is now approximately seven months pregnant. Two other students have also been accused of recording videos of the girl and using them to blackmail her.
The case was filed at Shyamnagar Police Station at around noon on Monday. Nur Alam, the accused teacher, is the son of Shamsur Sardar and a resident of Gumanatali village in Shyamnagar upazila.
According to the girl’s family, the alleged incident occurred about seven months ago during a private tuition session. They claim that Nur Alam mixed sleeping medication with juice and gave it to the child, leaving her unconscious before allegedly raping her. The family further alleged that a video was recorded and used to intimidate the girl.
The student is originally from Sharsha upazila in Jashore district. According to her family, she had been living at her maternal grandparents’ home to continue her education while her mother was working in Saudi Arabia. During that period, she received private tuition from the accused teacher.
The allegations also involve two students from Classes Eight and Ten at the madrasa. The family claims that the two students recorded videos of the girl and used them to blackmail her. However, further details about the alleged video recording and blackmail were not immediately available.
Attempts to obtain a direct response from Nur Alam were unsuccessful. When his mobile phone was contacted, his wife answered and said she had no knowledge of the matter. The two other students named in the allegations could not be reached for comment.
Shafiul Islam Patwary, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, confirmed that a case had been filed. He said the madrasa teacher and the two students had been named as accused in the rape case.
The incident has raised serious concerns about child protection, student safety and the prevention of sexual violence. Given the girl’s age and reported pregnancy, access to appropriate medical care, psychological support and protection from further intimidation will be particularly important.
The allegations are yet to be established through the legal process. The filing of a case does not, by itself, prove the guilt of those accused. A thorough investigation will be necessary to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine the responsibility of the individuals named in the complaint.
