Agricultural authorities in Lakshmipur have cracked down on illegal hoarding and agricultural supply manipulation, seizing nearly sixty sacks of fertiliser from multiple retail shops and a warehouse belonging to a local political figure. The operation aims to protect farming communities from artificial shortages and ensure fair pricing during a critical cropping season.
The targeted enforcement drive took place on Monday afternoon within the South Charbangshi Union of Raipur Upazila. Upazila Agriculture Officer Majedul Islam spearheaded the surprise inspections, leading a team of agricultural extension workers and local administrators to investigate persistent complaints regarding illicit stock-piling and black-market trading in the rural belt.
During the sweep, officials targeted three prominent fertiliser retail outlets alongside a suspicious storage facility owned by Faruk Sheikh, a union parishad member and local leader of the recently banned Awami League political organisation. Inspectors meticulously examined trade licences, distribution records, and physical inventory levels inside the raided properties. Finding no valid permits or legal justification for the large volumes stored away from authorized distribution channels, the authorities confiscated approximately sixty sacks of mixed agricultural fertiliser.
Speaking to reporters after the operation, Upazila Agriculture Officer Majedul Islam explained that the raids were launched following concrete intelligence regarding illegal stocking and unauthorized retail practices. He confirmed that roughly sixty sacks of various fertiliser types were seized from the three shops and the primary warehouse. Officials are currently verifying ownership documentation and distribution quotas to initiate formal legal proceedings against those responsible under existing agricultural regulations. Local farmers have expressed relief over the crackdown, hoping that continuous monitoring will deter syndicates from exploiting rural cultivators.
