A student political leader has been injured in a stabbing incident reportedly linked to a dispute over illegal sand and narcotics trading in Feni district of Bangladesh.
The incident occurred on Monday night in the Bogoir Ballapukur area under Paigachhia Union of Feni Sadar Upazila. The victim, Md. Abtahi Hossain Tahi (20), serves as the General Secretary of the Mahipal Government College unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. He sustained serious injuries after being stabbed in the back and was immediately rescued and admitted to Feni Sadar Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
According to police and local sources, the violence stemmed from an altercation involving allegations surrounding the continuation of illicit sand extraction and drug-related activities in the area. The confrontation escalated between Tahi and two local individuals identified as Khurshid and Maruf. During the heated exchange, Khurshid allegedly attacked Tahi with a knife, leaving him critically injured. Another individual named Javed was also reportedly hurt during the incident.
Following the attack, local residents intervened swiftly, rescuing the injured and transporting them to the hospital. The incident triggered tension in the locality, with residents expressing concern over the growing influence of illegal trading networks in the area.
Police acted promptly and arrested the main accused, Khurshid, on Tuesday. He was later produced before the court as legal proceedings were initiated. Student leaders from the victim’s organisation strongly condemned the incident, demanding justice and immediate action against all perpetrators.
