A teacher at Milestone School and College was killed after falling from a motorcycle and coming under the wheels of two buses in Dhaka’s Banasree area on Wednesday evening.
The accident occurred at around 5.45pm on 17 September in front of Farazi Hospital in Banasree. The deceased was identified as Taspia Ahmed Tisha, 31, a teacher at the school’s Aftabnagar branch.
Taspia’s family home is in Professor Para of Chandpur Sadar upazila. She had been living with her family in Meradia Noapara in Khilgaon, Dhaka.
Her brother, Enam Ahmed, said Taspia had left home for professional work. The family later received news that she had fallen from the back of a motorcycle near Farazi Hospital and was subsequently crushed by two buses.
The circumstances of the accident are being investigated. According to Khilgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Anoy Chandra Pal, Taspia was caught between a Ramzan Paribahan bus and another bus after falling from the motorcycle. She died at the scene from the impact.
Police went to the location after being informed and recovered her body. Following the completion of the initial legal procedures, the body was sent to the mortuary of Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 9pm for a post-mortem examination.
The post-mortem examination will form part of the formal investigation into the death. Police are also examining the circumstances surrounding the movement of the motorcycle and the two buses at the time of the incident.
Both buses involved in the accident have been seized, including the Ramzan Paribahan vehicle, Sub-Inspector Anoy Chandra Pal said. Police have also detained the drivers and helpers of both buses for questioning.
The accident has left Taspia’s family and colleagues grieving over her sudden death. She had been travelling for work when the incident occurred, according to her family.
Road accidents involving buses and motorcycles remain a serious concern in Dhaka, where several types of vehicles often share busy roads and intersections. In this case, however, the exact sequence of events that led to Taspia falling from the motorcycle and being struck by the buses will have to be established through the police investigation.
Police said further legal action would be taken after examining the available evidence and completing the necessary procedures. The post-mortem findings and the investigation into the two seized buses are expected to help clarify the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
