Iranian military forces have launched a missile strike against the headquarters of the Komala Party, an Iranian Kurdish political opposition faction, located within the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The missile struck the group’s facility in the Duli Alan area, northeast of Erbil, on Tuesday afternoon. Representatives from the Komala Party confirmed the attack shortly after the explosion, noting that internal safety procedures helped prevent severe casualties among party officials and personnel present on site.
In a statement posted on social media, Komala Party spokesman Amjad Panahi confirmed that a missile launched from Iran hit their headquarters on Tuesday afternoon. Panahi stated that advance safety measures enabled members to take cover during the strike. Detailed information concerning material damage or casualties was not immediately available.
Escalating Pressure on Iranian Kurdish Factions
The Komala Party, known formally as the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan or the Kurdish Toilers’ Party, advocates for the political and cultural rights of the Kurdish population in Iran. Operating from bases inside northern Iraq, the organization has long opposed the administration in Tehran.
Iranian authorities regard Komala and other Iranian Kurdish groups based in Iraqi territory as security threats, accusing them of organizing cross-border operations and civil disruption inside Iran. Kurdish leadership, however, maintains that its efforts are focused on political advocacy and resisting marginalisation.
Panahi noted that following the escalation of wider regional tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, Iranian forces have stepped up strikes against the group. He stated that Iranian forces have deployed over 102 missiles and drones against Komala positions and administrative camps across northern Iraq. Iranian officials made no immediate public comment regarding Tuesday’s attack.
Repeated Cross-Border Strikes
Tuesday’s bombardment follows a similar attack carried out two weeks ago, when an Iranian missile struck a Komala facility in the Alana Valley, injuring six party members.
