Police have arrested three people, including a Jubo League leader, in possession of yaba tablets in Sunamganj’s Dharmapasha upazila.
The arrested individuals are Shaker Hossain Sagar, 35, the liberation war affairs secretary of the Dharmapasha upazila Jubo League; his brother Sazzad Hossain, 34; and Md Rana Mia, 35.
The arrests were made early on Friday, 4 September, during a police raid at Sazzad Hossain’s house in Bir Uttar village of Selbarash Union. Police said the operation was carried out after receiving confidential information about suspected drug-related activities at the residence.
According to police, 38 yaba tablets were recovered from the premises during the raid. Following the seizure, all three men were taken into custody. A case has subsequently been filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act at Dharmapasha Police Station.
Shaker Hossain Sagar is the son of the late Nur Hossain and a resident of Bir Uttar village. His brother Sazzad Hossain also lives in the same village. Rana Mia is from Sharisham village in the same upazila and is the son of Madin Ali.
Dharmapasha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Imam Hossain said the three men had previously been detained in connection with allegations involving narcotics. According to the police officer, after spending time in custody in earlier cases and subsequently securing bail or release through legal procedures, they returned to the area and became involved in alleged drug trading again.
Acting on information received through confidential sources, police launched the early-morning operation at Sazzad Hossain’s residence. The discovery of the yaba tablets led to further legal action against the three suspects.
After the arrests, police completed the necessary procedures and produced the accused before a court on Friday. They were subsequently sent to jail under the court’s order.
Police said anti-narcotics operations and surveillance are continuing across Dharmapasha to identify people suspected of involvement in the possession, sale and distribution of illegal drugs. Such operations are generally based on information gathered by law-enforcement agencies about suspected narcotics activity in particular areas.
The latest case will now proceed through the legal process. Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the seizure and determine whether the recovered yaba was intended for personal use, storage or distribution, as well as whether other individuals were involved. Any such findings, however, will depend on the investigation and subsequent judicial proceedings.
The allegations against the arrested individuals should not be treated as proof of guilt. Their legal responsibility will ultimately be determined through the court process.
