A brutal murder case involving the recovery of a woman’s body stuffed inside a trunk in Sherpur’s Sreebardi upazila has been swiftly solved within 48 hours, with police confirming the arrest of the prime suspect and his wife, both of whom have given confessional statements in court.
The victim, identified as Dolly Akter (35), was found on 1 April inside a trunk wrapped in a sack with her hands and feet bound at Tatihati Nayapara Dhalibari Mor in Sreebardi. The case initially sparked widespread shock and concern across the locality due to its gruesome nature.
Following intensive investigation, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Jamalpur unit, arrested Mohammad Niamur Nahid (26) and his wife Mst Rikita Moni (26) as the prime accused and accomplice respectively. Both were produced before the court on Saturday (4 April), where they reportedly gave confessional statements under Section 164, admitting involvement in the killing.
A third individual, a pickup van driver named Ashraf Ali, was also taken into custody for questioning and later made a witness statement before the court.

At a press briefing held at Sherpur Press Club, Superintendent of Police of PBI Jamalpur, Pankaj Dutta (PPM), confirmed that the case was solved within two days of the body being recovered.
He said that after the discovery of the unidentified body, a specialised PBI team reached the scene and used digital forensic techniques to establish the victim’s identity. The deceased was later confirmed as the daughter of Mohammad Alal Mia of Mohanganj upazila in Netrokona district.
Following this, a murder case was filed at Sreebardi Police Station by the victim’s brother, Shafiqul Islam Shafiq, naming unknown suspects.
Investigators traced a blue pickup truck believed to have been used to transport the body. The vehicle was located in Velua area of Sreebardi upazila on 3 April, and its driver, Ashraf Ali, was taken into custody for interrogation.
Based on his statement and further digital tracking, law enforcement conducted coordinated operations across Gazipur, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, and Sherpur to locate the suspects.
Ultimately, the two accused were arrested from a passenger bus on the Sherpur–Mymensingh highway near Bhatshala Palli Bidyut Office.
According to investigators and court testimony, the incident stemmed from a dispute over money linked to alleged immoral activities.
Police sources said that Dolly Akter, who had previously lost her first husband and later married again, had been living in the Masterbari Ideal Mor area of Valuka and working in a garment factory.
The accused, Niamur Nahid and Rikita Moni, were also textile workers residing in a rented house in Sripur, Gazipur.
Investigators stated that on the evening of 30 March, Nahid met the victim and took her to his residence in his wife’s absence. A dispute later broke out over payment. As the argument escalated and the victim began shouting, Nahid allegedly strangled her using a towel in order to silence her.
She reportedly died from suffocation at the scene. The accused then informed his wife, and together they allegedly placed the body inside a trunk, transported it using a hired pickup van, and dumped it in Sreebardi before returning to Gazipur.
