The Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs has executed a major administrative reshuffle within Bangladesh Police, transferring 24 senior officers across key divisions, metropolitan units, and specialized branches. The restructuring affects three Deputy Inspectors General (DIG), 12 Additional Deputy Inspectors General (Additional DIG), and nine Superintendents of Police (SP).
The ministry issued three separate official notifications on Sunday, 4 October, confirming the appointments. Signed by Deputy Secretary Tausif Ahmed, the executive orders state that the transfers have been enacted in the public interest and will take immediate effect across all designated postings.
Among the high-level postings within the DIG rank, Dr Md Akkas Uddin Bhuiyan of the Special Response Unit (SRU), formerly known as the Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU), has been reassigned to the Police Staff College. Similarly, Md Mahmudur Rahman, who served as DIG in the Special Branch (SB), has also been transferred to the Police Staff College. Meanwhile, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) DIG Mohammad Hasan Bari Noor has been assigned to head security operations for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, which oversees the capital’s metro rail network.
The reorganization also encompasses mid-to-senior field commanders across several metropolitan forces and specialized units. CID Superintendent of Police A T M Mosharraf Hossain and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner Syed Mohammad Farhad have both been appointed as Deputy Commissioners of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police. Mahbubul Alam, previously stationed at the Police Staff College as Superintendent of Police, transitions to the CID as Special Superintendent of Police. Furthermore, SP Mohammad Humayun Kabir, who was attached to the Central Police Hospital, has been reassigned to the Tourist Police.
In other notable transfers, Special Branch SP Ashrafuzzaman moves to the Khulna Metropolitan Police as Deputy Commissioner, while Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) SP Yasmin Khatun joins the Special Branch. Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Nishat Angela from Police Headquarters has been posted to the Tourist Police. Mohammad Imdad Hussain, Deputy Commissioner of the Barishal Metropolitan Police, transfers to the SRU as Superintendent of Police, and Kabir Ahmed leaves his post as Deputy Commissioner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police to take up a matching role within the Khulna Metropolitan Police.
Periodic administrative adjustments within Bangladesh Police are routinely conducted to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen institutional oversight, and optimize leadership distribution across urban and specialized security forces. The newly assigned officers are expected to assume their respective duties immediately to ensure seamless continuity in public service and law enforcement operations.
